Deliver a big wake-up punch to your senses! The combination of sweet and sour citrus, spicy chili, and ginger stimulates your mouth, nose, and throat. If your brain is a bit sluggish, this will undoubtedly grab its attention.
This recipe is a simple four-ingredient combination that requires little time to prepare. The pulpy version has more impact than the strained one but doesn’t go down as smoothly. The better your blender is, the smoother it’ll be. If you happen to have a juicer, throw the ingredients in there instead.
If you really dislike spicy drinks, you can do without the chili. But I can’t promise it packs the same level of wake-up power. Try using a mild chili instead. It adds depth to the flavour.
It’s quite hard to say precisely what your version will taste like. There is a massive variation in the availability and sizes of oranges and grapefruits. The recipe has the weights I happened to use, but there’s no reason to get them exactly. Recipes will always vary based on the raw ingredients. I could instead provide measures for juices, but then it gets more complicated. It still doesn’t remove all the variation. Enjoy the version you create.
Wake up!
Ginger Orange Grapefruit Power Shot
Ingredients
-
1 large 413 gOrange
-
1 medium 302 gGrapefruit
-
40 gGinger
-
1 small 5 gChili
Equipment
- blender
- strainer (optional)
Directions
- Peel the orange and the grapefruit.
- Place all the ingredients in a blender.
- Blend until smooth. It will still be thick, as it has a lot of pulp in it. The drink is enjoyable now; it adds a bit of an extra kick.
- Optionally, if you want a cleaner drink, work the mixture through a strainer: pour it in the strainer, placed over a mixing bowl, and press it against sides with a spatula.
